We have had a few of those now, and the small item that quietly earned its keep every time was the Goal Zero Flip 36.
Editor’s verdict
For around ₱900, the Flip 36 is not the biggest power bank you can buy, and that is exactly the point. It is small enough to always be charged and in the bag, and it holds enough to keep one phone useful across a long outage if you are disciplined about it. Pair it with a habit of topping it up whenever the power is on, and it will be ready when the power is not.
Why this power bank
The Flip 36 holds about 3,350mAh — roughly a single full phone charge, or a couple of careful partial ones. On its own that does not sound like three days. The trick is how you use it: phone on aeroplane mode, screen dim, checked twice a day for messages and the PAGASA feed, then switched off again. Rationed like that, one charge stretches a long way.
What I like is the folding USB plug built into the body. There is no cable to lose — when the power flickers back on, even for twenty minutes, you fold out the prong and push it straight into any socket to refill. During our last long outage the electricity returned in short, unpredictable bursts, and being able to grab those bursts without hunting for a cable is what kept us connected.
It is honest about what it is: a pocket top-up, not a house battery. For a family that means deciding early which single phone is the “comms phone” and keeping that one alive, rather than letting four handsets all die at once.
Who this is for
Anyone who wants a reliable, always-packed top-up for the one phone that matters during an outage. It is ideal alongside a larger station for people who want both a big reserve at home and a small one in the go-bag.
Who this is NOT for
If you need to keep several devices going, or run a CPAP or a fan overnight, this is far too small — you want a proper power station and probably a panel to feed it. Do not ask the Flip 36 to be something it is not.

Carried through the 2024 and 2025 wet seasons and used in earnest during a three-day outage after a storm, topped up from short returns of mains power and used to keep one phone reachable throughout.
