Galing Gear is a Philippine website about getting ready for typhoons, floods, earthquakes and brownouts. This page says what we keep about you, why, and what you can do about it. Questions about your data: privacy@galinggear.com.

What we keep

  • If you sign up for our newsletter: your name, your email address and the date you signed up. We use them only to send you Galing Gear emails, and every email will have a one-click unsubscribe.
  • A language cookie: if you choose a language, your browser keeps a small cookie for one year so the site opens in that language next time. It holds only the language and doesn’t identify you.
  • Nothing else. No accounts, no analytics or advertising cookies, and we don’t keep your IP address. We never sell or share your details.

Some articles link to shops such as Shopee and Lazada, some through the Involve Asia affiliate network. If you click one, the shop and the network may set their own cookies in your browser to record that the sale came from us. They use what they collect under their own privacy policies. We don’t see who you are or what you buy, only our commission totals.

We don’t show ads and don’t use interest-based advertising. Shops and networks you visit may show you ads based on your interests, under their own policies.

Your choices about cookies: you can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser’s settings (usually under Privacy or Cookies). Blocking third-party cookies stops shops recording that a sale came from us. You can opt out of interest-based ads in each shop’s or network’s own settings, and not clicking a shop link avoids their cookies altogether.

Videos

Some articles show YouTube videos in privacy-enhanced mode. YouTube stores nothing until you play a video; once you do, Google’s privacy policy applies.

Who handles your data for us

Supabase keeps the newsletter list in Singapore. Cloudflare runs the website on its worldwide network. Amazon SES, in Sydney, Australia, will send the newsletter. They handle your data only to provide these services, under their own data-protection terms.

How long we keep it

Newsletter sign-ups stay until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. After you unsubscribe we keep only your email address on a do-not-email list, so you’re never added again by mistake. The language cookie lasts one year, or until you delete it.

Your rights

Under the Data Privacy Act of 2012 you can ask what we keep about you and get a copy, correct it, object to its use, withdraw your consent (as easily as you gave it), and have it deleted or blocked. Email privacy@galinggear.com and we’ll reply within 15 days. You can also ask who controls your data, and we’ll tell you.

If our answer doesn’t settle it, you can complain to the National Privacy Commission at privacy.gov.ph.

Children

Galing Gear is written for adults. The newsletter is for people 18 and over, and we don’t knowingly collect children’s details.

Changes

If we change what we keep or why, we’ll update this page and its date first.
